AN-70: Wide-Body Transport Aircraft with Short Take-Off and Landing

FUNCTIONS:

  • transportation of broad range of cargoes up to 47 ton, including, among others, large-size cargoes and military personnel;
  • aerial delivery of equipment, cargoes, and paratroopers;
  • multi-purpose use: fuel dispenser, medical, patrol aircraft, etc.

CHARACTERISTICS:

  • operation from 600 meter long unpaved undeveloped airfield;
  • all-weather around-the-clock operation at any latitude;
  • high cruising speed combined with low fuel consumption;
  • long-term standalone operation at undeveloped airfields.

CORE FLIGHT PERFORMANCE:

Engines:

  • type propfan: D-27;
  • number x power, kW (effective horsepower) 4x10,300(14,000).

Maximum Carrying Capacity, t: 47

Cruising Speed, km/h: 750-800

Cruising Level, m: 9,000-12,000

Deployment conditions:

  • concrete-soil: normal takeoff/landing: 1,800/2,200
  • soil: short takeoff/landing: 900/600-700

Practical Range, km:

  • load: 47 ton: 1,350
  • load: 35 ton: 3,800/1,450
  • load: 30 ton: 5,000/2,600/700
  • load: 20 ton: 7,400/4,900/3,000

Fuel Consumption, g/t-km: 126

Crew: 3-5 members

The engines carry coaxial propellers SV-27 specially designed for them (each having 2 disks with blades, which rotate in opposite directions). The front disk has 8 blades, the rear disk has 7. Propeller diameter: 4.5 m. The scimitar-shape blades are made completely of composite materials; their power efficiency is 0.9. This allows reaching the flight speed comparable to turbo-jet aircraft at approximately 30% lower fuel consumption. An-70's speed is comparable to Il-76 and is 1.2–1.3 times higher than transport aircraft An-12 (Ukraine), C-130 (US) and C-160 (France/Germany).
