UKRAINE DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER OLEH RYBACHUK MEETS MAREK SIWIEC
Mr. Marek SIWIEC (Poland - PSE), Chairman of the European Parliament delegation to the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, met on April 21 with Mr. Oleh RYBACHUK, the new Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, who is in charge of European relations and integration in President Yushchenko's Government.
This in-depth exchange concentrated on the achievements of the new Ukrainian government in stabilising the situation within the country and the starting of the necessary reform process. The conversation also touched upon the new Ukraine "Road Map" for European integration, which Mr. RYBACHUK said was well on its way towards being realised.
The European Union is the largest single donor of assistance to Ukraine, and is actively revising and reorganising a package of new measures within the EU-Ukraine Action Plan and the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP). It is the European Union's goal to help substantiate Ukraine's European Perspective and enhance the reform process while stabilising democracy in Ukraine as a foremost objective.
With a view towards preparing the upcoming 8th Meeting of the EU-Ukraine PCC in June, where Mr. SIWIEC's delegation will meet with its counterpart in the Verkhovna Rada in Kiev, Mr. SIWEC also raised a number of topics of specific interest:
