UKRAINIAN A CAPPELLA ENSEMBLE “PIKKARDIYSKA   TERTSIA” IN BRUSSELS 

On December 7, 2006 the famous Ukrainian cappella team “Pikkardiyska Tertsia” had two concerts in Brussels.

During a lunch-time the musicians had a performance in the central building of the European Commission BERLAYMONT.  The concert in several European languages had a great success to the representative of the European institution. The event has been organized on initiative of the Mission of Ukraine to the EU and under support of DG EC RELEX Information Unit.

The same day, at the evening, the concert of  the Ukrainian musical team took place in the famous “Le Cercle Royal Gaulois Artistique et Litteraire”. The Mission of Ukraine to the EU, the organizer of the concert, invited the high representatives of the European Commission, Council of the EU, European Parliament, was well as the high representatives of the European business, mass-media, the diplomatic circle accredited to the EU as well as the Ukrainian Diaspora in Belgium.

Addressing to the guests of the concert, Ambassador and Chief of the Mission of Ukraine to the EU Mr.Roman Shpek in particular noticed that "tonight we have been united in our appreciation of the performance. It has been possible because the songs we heard are the part of our common values, our common European cultural heritage. We hope that our EU friends do not forget about it and do not deny Ukraine her rightful place as a member of the European family. We all need time to have this dream come true. However, the door must always remain open". Mr.Shpek paid attention that the concert has been in fact performed in many languages. "I think it is a good signal that, one day, when Ukraine joins the EU, we would hardly have additional problems with translation", he added.

The Ukrainian musical team began with a quartet performing ancient Ukrainian music from the Fifteenth Century, along with adaptations of traditional Ukrainian folk songs. In time, the group expanded to six members with a repertoire of nearly 300 works, including liturgical music, folk songs, world hit songs as well as a good many original compositions from group members.

 From its inception on September 24, 1992 up to this day, “Pikkardiyska Tertsia” succeeded in creating its own musical style and its own performing aesthetic with a unique blend of voices, which attract new listeners with every concert and energize long-standing fans of this group.

“Pikkardiyska Tertsia” has recorded six CDs, collaborated in projects with a variety of musicians and eagerly participates in charitable events. Over the years, “PT” has performed throughout Ukraine and Poland and conducted concert tours of Germany, the United States, Canada, Italy, Russia and France. The group has also taken part in many international competitions and performed as guest artists at diverse international festivals. Performing takes place not only in Ukrainian, but also in Polish, German, Italian and English.
